For many years sheet vinyl flooring was considered the best choice for affordable waterproof flooring in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens. It has great patterns and colors, is fairly durable, and has great stain resistance. The problem was it is prone to tearing and can be quite hard underfoot, especially when installed over concrete.
In answer to this Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) were created. It is vinyl coated planks that click and lock together like laminate flooring. LVT uses a photographic printed film topped with a clear vinyl protective coating measured in mils. It was actually created in the 1970s but has gained popularity in recent years with the refinement of better printing techniques. The realistic colors and patterns on modern LVT planks are incredible.
The prints and textures on the LVT are far more detailed than on a simple vinyl tile or vinyl sheet. Since Luxury Vinyl Tiles are attached to planks, they have deeper printed patterns resulting in more textured wood grains, and have more clear protective vinyl coating.
