LVT flooring in an Orfordville, WI small bathroom remodel

Can LVT be installed in a Bathroom?

Luxury Vile Tiles (LVT) is a popular choice for residential flooring recently. It is very durable, easy to install, and now most of it is “waterproof”. But it is important to know waterproof does not mean watertight. The vinyl planks themselves are indeed waterproof. It’s how the planks lock together that should inform you if the locking edge of each plank is watertight.

Mohawk is a brand that definitely has a patented locking edge that is watertight. It’s so watertight that they even have it on their RevWood Laminate brand for waterproofing. It is also important to silicone the wall edges of the LVT to seal it off from water upon installation.

Another option would be to use a glue-down luxury vinyl plank (LVP) over an existing sheet vinyl if you are remodeling. The seal of glue would add extra water protection over an already waterproof surface. This would also work well in an area with a lot of water present.
